About Scene Queen
Scene Queen is the project of Phoebe Duo Wang, a hyperpop artist who emerged from the Internet underground with a sound that's deliberately abrasive and emotionally raw. Her music sits in the liminal space between pop melody and harsh noise, layering distorted synths and breathy vocals over chaotic production that shouldn't work but does. Tracks like "It Gets Worse" showcase her ability to pair genuinely catchy hooks with production that sounds like it's falling apart in real time. She's become something of a figurehead in the hyperpop scene without ever trying to be palatable, instead leaning harder into the genre's most experimental impulses. Her work explores themes of alienation, identity, and the psychological weight of online existence, all delivered with an almost conversational detachment that makes the darker moments hit harder.
Her sets are tense and hypnotic rather than celebratory. The crowd gets quiet and focused, drawn into the disorienting production. She performs with minimal movement but absolute presence, and the distorted sound design creates this almost uncomfortable intimacy despite the size of the room.

Scene Queen + Worcester
Scene Queen rolled through Palladium Upstairs in July 2025 with the kind of setlist that felt like a victory lap. They opened with "BDSM" and spent thirteen songs winding through their catalog of bratty, provocative pop—"Pink Push-Up Bra," "Finger," "Hot Singles in Your Area"—each title as unflinching as the last. The show had that rare quality where you could feel the room getting more comfortable with the absurdity as it went, laughing at "Mutual Masturbation" by the time it came around. "18+" closed things out, which felt right. Worcester doesn't always get acts this unafraid to lean into provocation, which made the night feel like something the city needed.

Live Music in Worcester
Worcester's underground pop scene has been quietly developing an appetite for acts willing to reject the polished, algorithmic approach. Scene Queen fits that appetite perfectly—hyper-pop and alt-pop artists who treat irony and sincerity as the same tool, who'd rather be memorable than likable. The city's smaller venues have become testing grounds for artists who couldn't get booked in Boston or New York, which means Worcester catches a lot of genuinely weird stuff before it gets watered down by bigger stages.
Worcester road trip to see Scene Queen?
Stay in the Elm Hill neighborhood — it's got actual character with tree-lined streets and the best local dining concentration. Book a table at Elm Tavern for elevated comfort food, then spend an afternoon at the Worcester Art Museum, which has a surprisingly strong collection that rewards a couple hours. If you want something quieter before the show, The Hanover Theatre is worth checking even if you're not catching a play — the building itself is an ornate 1904 gem. The walk from Elm Hill to the venue area is doable and keeps you off the highway entirely.
