About Scene Queen
Scene Queen is the project of Phoebe Duo Wang, a hyperpop artist who emerged from the Internet underground with a sound that's deliberately abrasive and emotionally raw. Her music sits in the liminal space between pop melody and harsh noise, layering distorted synths and breathy vocals over chaotic production that shouldn't work but does. Tracks like "It Gets Worse" showcase her ability to pair genuinely catchy hooks with production that sounds like it's falling apart in real time. She's become something of a figurehead in the hyperpop scene without ever trying to be palatable, instead leaning harder into the genre's most experimental impulses. Her work explores themes of alienation, identity, and the psychological weight of online existence, all delivered with an almost conversational detachment that makes the darker moments hit harder.
Her sets are tense and hypnotic rather than celebratory. The crowd gets quiet and focused, drawn into the disorienting production. She performs with minimal movement but absolute presence, and the distorted sound design creates this almost uncomfortable intimacy despite the size of the room.

Scene Queen + Washington DC
Scene Queen brought their maximalist pop-punk energy to RFK Stadium Grounds in June 2025, running through nine songs that showcased their knack for turning provocative titles into earworms. The set leaned heavy on their debut album cuts—"Pink Push-Up Bra" opened things up, followed by "Pink Panther" and "Finger," tracks that had the crowd locked in from the start. "MILF" and "Barbie & Ken" hit differently live, those synth-heavy production moments landing harder in person. It's the kind of show that reminds you why Scene Queen's bratty aesthetic and surprisingly sharp songwriting have resonated with DC crowds.

Live Music in Washington DC
Washington DC's music landscape has always been skeptical of easy categorization—the city's indie and alternative scenes have never needed to apologize for their eclecticism. Scene Queen's brand of theatrical pop-punk finds natural ground here, where audiences have spent decades supporting artists who refuse to fit neatly into a single box. The city's venue infrastructure and fanbase appreciate novelty paired with actual musicianship, and that's exactly what Scene Queen delivers.
