About Scene Queen
Scene Queen is the project of Phoebe Duo Wang, a hyperpop artist who emerged from the Internet underground with a sound that's deliberately abrasive and emotionally raw. Her music sits in the liminal space between pop melody and harsh noise, layering distorted synths and breathy vocals over chaotic production that shouldn't work but does. Tracks like "It Gets Worse" showcase her ability to pair genuinely catchy hooks with production that sounds like it's falling apart in real time. She's become something of a figurehead in the hyperpop scene without ever trying to be palatable, instead leaning harder into the genre's most experimental impulses. Her work explores themes of alienation, identity, and the psychological weight of online existence, all delivered with an almost conversational detachment that makes the darker moments hit harder.
Her sets are tense and hypnotic rather than celebratory. The crowd gets quiet and focused, drawn into the disorienting production. She performs with minimal movement but absolute presence, and the distorted sound design creates this almost uncomfortable intimacy despite the size of the room.

Scene Queen + Phoenix
Scene Queen rolled through the Nile Theater in Phoenix back in July 2025, delivering exactly what you'd expect from a band that doesn't bother with subtlety. The setlist was wall-to-wall provocation—"BDSM" and "MILF" landed early, "Hot Singles in Your Area" hit somewhere in the middle, and they closed the main set with "18+," which felt less like a song choice and more like a statement. What made the show work wasn't the shock value, though. Songs like "Pink Panther" and "L-Shaped Couch" showed these guys actually write hooks beneath the theatrics. The Arizona crowd ate it up. It was loud, it was dumb in the best way, and nobody was pretending to be anything other than exactly what they were.

Live Music in Phoenix
Phoenix has quietly built a solid underground rock scene, the kind of place where bands pushing boundaries actually find an audience. It's not a coastal town, which means there's less pretension and more genuine enthusiasm for anything loud and weird. Scene Queen fits right into that ethos—the city's venues like the Nile have become reliable stops for artists doing their own thing without apology, whether that's noise rock, punk, or whatever you'd call deliberately provocative pop-rock.
Phoenix road trip to see Scene Queen?
Stay in Arcadia, where tree-lined streets and restored Craftsman homes give you actual neighborhood texture instead of generic sprawl. Eat at Otro, where the cooking is precise without being pretentious. Hit the Heard Museum if you want to understand what Arizona actually is beneath the tourism layer. Hike Camelback Mountain early morning before the heat makes it punishing. Spend an afternoon at Taliesin West, Frank Lloyd Wright's winter home, which feels oddly fitting for a band that cares about emotional architecture. The whole city slows down at sunset in a way that makes Dashboard's introspection feel less like melancholy and more like clarity.
