About Scene Queen
Scene Queen is the project of Phoebe Duo Wang, a hyperpop artist who emerged from the Internet underground with a sound that's deliberately abrasive and emotionally raw. Her music sits in the liminal space between pop melody and harsh noise, layering distorted synths and breathy vocals over chaotic production that shouldn't work but does. Tracks like "It Gets Worse" showcase her ability to pair genuinely catchy hooks with production that sounds like it's falling apart in real time. She's become something of a figurehead in the hyperpop scene without ever trying to be palatable, instead leaning harder into the genre's most experimental impulses. Her work explores themes of alienation, identity, and the psychological weight of online existence, all delivered with an almost conversational detachment that makes the darker moments hit harder.
Her sets are tense and hypnotic rather than celebratory. The crowd gets quiet and focused, drawn into the disorienting production. She performs with minimal movement but absolute presence, and the distorted sound design creates this almost uncomfortable intimacy despite the size of the room.

Live Music in Louisville
Louisville's music DNA runs deep in rock and hip-hop, but the city's younger crowds have been increasingly open to experimental electronic music and genre hybrids. The underground has carved out space for artists pushing boundaries, from experimental producers to boundary-crossing rappers. Scene Queen's hyperpop maximalism—all fractured synths and compressed intensity—represents the kind of uncompromising aesthetic that finds traction with Louisville's more adventurous listeners.
Louisville road trip to see Scene Queen?
Stay in the Highlands, Louisville's most walkable neighborhood with tree-lined streets and genuine local character. Hit Harvest, a restaurant that sources regionally and takes its food seriously without pretension. Spend an afternoon at the Speed Art Museum, which has solid contemporary and historical collections. Before the show, grab drinks at the bourbon bars along Main Street — not the tourist traps, but places where locals actually drink. Catch dinner at Lilia, if you want something refined but not stuffy. The city's compact enough that you can do this without feeling rushed.
