About NERIAH
NERIAH is the solo project of Neriah Fisher, a Canadian singer-songwriter who spent years figuring out who she wanted to be as an artist before landing on something that felt right. She grew up in Courtice, Ontario, in a musical family where making music was just what people did. Her dad played guitar, her siblings sang, and she started writing songs young enough that the early ones were probably terrible in the way everyone's early songs are terrible.
She put out her first single "Take It Back" in 2016, which got some traction on Spotify's playlist ecosystem, but she was still finding her footing. The sound was polished pop with singer-songwriter roots, the kind of thing that could slide into a coffee shop playlist without anyone objecting. She followed it up with singles like "Wasted" and "Fool For You" over the next couple years, building a catalog that showed promise but hadn't quite crystallized into anything distinctive yet.
The turning point came around 2019 when she started working with producer Josh Zegan, who helped her push past the safe, pleasant territory she'd been occupying. "Blue Jeans" and "Phone" showed more edge, more willingness to let the production get interesting. She was figuring out how to balance the pop instincts with something that felt more personal and less like chasing whatever was working on streaming playlists that week.
Her 2020 track "It's Not You" probably reached the most ears, racking up millions of streams and getting added to major Spotify editorial playlists. It's a breakup song that doesn't try too hard, with production that knows when to pull back and let her voice do the work. Around this time she also started being more open about her songwriting process and mental health stuff, which gave the music more context without making it homework to listen to.
She's released a steady stream of singles since then, including "Desperate," "Petty," and "Used To Be," refining a sound that sits somewhere between pop and alternative without committing fully to either. There's no debut album yet, which feels deliberate. She seems more interested in figuring out what she wants to say than rushing to package it all up with a bow on it.
As of now, NERIAH is still building, still releasing songs that show growth without making a huge deal about it. She's got a solid fan base that found her through streaming and TikTok, and she's carved out space as a songwriter who can write a hook without sacrificing honesty. She's not the biggest name in pop, but she's doing the work, and the trajectory suggests she's more interested in longevity than a viral moment. That's probably smart.
NERIAH's shows move slowly and deliberately. Crowd tends toward attentive silence rather than dancing—people really listen. The sparse arrangements translate directly, which means any imprecision gets exposed. When it lands, it lands hard. Small venues suit them better than big rooms.
