Caskets came together in Leeds around 2018, which means they're part of that post-hardcore wave that figured out how to make heavy music melodic without losing the aggression. The lineup centers around Matt Flood on vocals, with a sound that pulls from metalcore, post-hardcore, and enough pop sensibility to make things sticky without feeling like they've sold out.

They spent their early years doing what most UK bands do: playing small venues, building a following through relentless gigging, and dropping singles that gradually found their way onto playlists. Their 2019 track "Ghost Like You" got some traction, establishing their template of combining harsh vocals with clean choruses that actually stick in your head. It's the kind of song that works whether you're into Architects or just miss early Bring Me The Horizon.

The real momentum came when they signed with Sharptone Records. Their 2022 debut album "Lost Souls" landed them in conversations about the next generation of British heavy music. Tracks like "Better Way Out" and "Drowned" showed they could write songs with proper dynamics instead of just toggling between screaming and singing. There's actual tension and release happening, which shouldn't be revolutionary but often feels that way in this genre.

What makes Caskets more interesting than your average metalcore band is their willingness to let songs breathe. They're not afraid of space or melody, and Flood's clean vocals do most of the heavy lifting emotionally. When the screams come in, they feel earned rather than obligatory. "Silhouettes" probably best demonstrates this, building from something almost delicate into a full breakdown without feeling like they're checking boxes.

They've toured pretty heavily across the UK and Europe, supporting bands like Holding Absence and Dayseeker, which tells you roughly where they sit in the ecosystem. They're the band that bridges the gap between people who still wear band shirts and people who just have Spotify playlists with names like "emotional intensity" or whatever.

By 2023 and into 2024, they kept the output steady with more singles and festival appearances. They're at that stage where they've proven they can write a solid album and now need to figure out if they have a second gear. The fanbase is there, the songs connect, and they've managed to stand out in an incredibly crowded space where every band has breakdowns and feelings.

Right now, Caskets are basically doing what mid-tier heavy bands do: touring, writing, staying visible. They haven't had their massive crossover moment, but they've built something sustainable. Whether they become the next big thing or remain a band that hardcore fans really rate depends on what they do next. Either way, they're one of the better examples of modern British heavy music that remembers songs matter.

Their sets hit hard in compact venues where the crowd can actually feel the bass frequencies in their chest. Pits form reliably during the heavy tracks. The vocals cut through clearly enough that you get why people came. Nothing fancy, no production tricks, just a band that knows how to tighten up and deliver.
