About Black Veil Brides
Black Veil Brides emerged from Los Angeles in 2006 as theatrical metalcore made for kids who wanted to wear eyeliner without apology. Led by vocalist Andy Biersack's operatic wails and the band's elaborate visual presentation, they built a fiercely loyal fanbase on the strength of their 2010 debut We Stitch These Wounds and its follow-up Set the World on Fire. Songs like Knives and Pens and Fallen Angels became anthems for the disaffected, mixing screamed verses with melody-driven choruses that actually stuck. Their appeal lies in the contrast: intricate guitar work meets pop sensibility, aggression tempered by genuine hooks. They're the kind of band that inspired a thousand people to dye their hair black and pick up a guitar, then stick with it. Over a decade and a half, they've remained consistent to that initial vision while adding layers of production and songwriting craft. They're not trying to reinvent metal or prove anything to critics. They just understood what their audience needed.
Biersack commands the stage with genuine theatrical presence. The crowd is younger, devoted, and completely uninhibited about screaming every word. Expect wall-to-wall energy, crowd participation that never drops, and a show structured for maximum emotional payoff rather than just technical display.

Black Veil Brides + Norfolk
Black Veil Brides rolled through Chartway Arena in April 2022 with the kind of setlist that rewarded the faithful. They dug into the catalog with "Faithless" and "Scarlet Cross," songs that hit different live, alongside the inevitable "Knives and Pens." "The Legacy" and "Fallen Angels" showed they weren't just running through the hits—there was real weight to the set. Norfolk's gotten its share of theatrical metal over the years, but BVB's particular brand of gothic drama seems to resonate here.

Live Music in Norfolk
Norfolk's music scene has a harder edge than you might expect from Hampton Roads. The city's supported its share of metal and alternative acts over the years, with venues like Chartway giving bands room to build audiences among people who take their theatrical rock seriously. Black Veil Brides fit naturally into that ecosystem — they're heavy enough to matter but theatrical enough to give the performance something beyond just volume.
Norfolk road trip to see Black Veil Brides?
Stay in the Ghent neighborhood — it's got actual character with tree-lined streets and converted warehouses. Dinner at Commune, which does locally-sourced food without the pretense. After the show, grab late-night food at d'Egg in Ocean View. Spend a day at the Chrysler Museum of Art if you want something substantial, or walk the waterfront at Town Point Park. Norfolk's food scene has gotten genuinely good in the last five years. The military history is everywhere if you're interested in that angle too.
