Third Day
T-Mobile Center — Kansas City, MO

Third Day emerged from the Georgia rock scene in the mid-90s and became one of the most consistent forces in Christian rock for two decades. The band built their reputation on stadium-sized anthems that worked equally well in arenas and churches, trading in heavy guitars and genuine melodic hooks rather than sappy sentiment. Songs like Wire and Thrive demonstrated their ability to write songs that felt urgent without being preachy. They won Grammys, played major festivals, and maintained a devoted following through constant touring and nine studio albums. What set them apart was their refusal to soften their rock credentials for the Christian market—they were a rock band first, one that happened to sing about faith. By the early 2010s they'd become something of an institution, the kind of band people grew up with and kept coming back to. They went on indefinite hiatus in 2018 after nearly 25 years of recording and touring.

Third Day shows were marathon events with true believers in the crowd who knew every word. The band delivered with professional precision and obvious stamina, pulling from a deep catalog. Sing-alongs were genuine, not forced. Energy rarely dipped.

Known for Wire, Thrive, Show Me Your Glory, God of Wonders, Consuming Fire

Third Day last touched down in Kansas City at Silverstein Eye Centers Arena in June 2018, delivering a set that balanced their biggest moments with deeper cuts. They opened with the driving intensity of 'Consuming Fire' and spent the evening moving between soaring anthems like 'God of Wonders' and more introspective passages like 'Tunnel.' The band stretched across their catalog, hitting 'Cry Out to Jesus' and the haunting 'Blackbird' alongside worship staples. They closed out with 'Agnus Dei,' letting the room sit with that final hymn. It was the kind of show that felt less like a victory lap and more like a band still searching, still reaching.

Kansas City's music tradition runs deep—blues, jazz, country—but it's also become a growing hub for contemporary Christian music and worship acts. Third Day fit naturally into that landscape, their blend of rock energy and spiritual introspection finding an audience in a city that values authenticity over polish. The region's support for guitar-driven bands with something to say gave them solid ground here.

Stay in Midtown, where the neighborhood has a real rhythm to it beyond just the venue. Hit up Betty Rae's for upscale barbecue that actually justifies the hype, then walk it off exploring the galleries and vintage shops along Baltimore. Catch a show at the Truman or Liberty Hall depending on the size, but leave time to visit Union Station—it's legitimately one of the finest Beaux-Arts buildings in the country, and worth seeing even if you're just passing through. The Power and Light District is there if you want drinks after, but Midtown's got better bones.
