About Steel Panther
Steel Panther is a Los Angeles-based glam metal band that treats the genre with both reverence and comedy. They're serious musicians playing unserious music about partying, women, and other metal staples, but they execute it with genuine musicianship. The band includes Satchel on guitar, Michael Starr on vocals, Lexxi Foxx on bass, and Stix Zadinia on drums. They've been active since the early 2000s, building a cult following by nailing the sound and look of 1980s hair metal while maintaining a winking distance from it. Albums like 'Feel the Steel' and 'Lower the Bar' showcase their ability to write genuinely catchy hooks while keeping the humor front and center. They're not trying to save rock or make a statement. They're just making songs about strippers and cocaine with killer guitar solos.
Steel Panther shows are packed with devoted metalheads who come for the guitar work and stay for the absurdity. The crowd sings along to every word, doesn't care that they're being mocked, and actively participates in the chaos. Starr works the stage like he's at the Sunset Strip in 1987. It's high-energy, sweaty, and genuinely fun.

Steel Panther + Indianapolis
Steel Panther rolled through the Egyptian Room at Old National Centre in Indianapolis on December 3, 2024, delivering exactly what their crowd shows up for: absurdist metal theater dressed in hairspray and one-liners. They opened with "Eyes of a Panther" and leaned hard into their catalog of deliberately ridiculous songs—"Asian Hooker," "17 Girls in a Row," "Eatin' Ain't Cheatin'"—the kind of tracks that sound deliberately offensive until you realize the joke is on themselves. A guitar solo broke up the middle of the set, because why not, before they closed it out with "Gloryhole." Sixteen songs of pure, unironic excess. The band's relationship with Indianapolis runs deeper than a one-off show; they've built a following among people who appreciate metal that doesn't take itself seriously.

Live Music in Indianapolis
Indianapolis has a decent metal underbelly, though it's never been the scene's epicenter. The city's venues like the Egyptian Room cater to touring acts more than homegrown ones, making it a pass-through stop for bands with national followings. Steel Panther fits that role perfectly—a band that thrives on the road, hitting mid-size rooms where fans know exactly what they're getting. The local metal crowd here tends to appreciate the genre's theatrical side, which makes a band built on parody and excess feel right at home.
Indianapolis road trip to see Steel Panther?
Stay in Fountain Square, the neighborhood with actual character—tree-lined streets, galleries, and the kind of restaurants that don't need to try too hard. Dinner at Bluebeard is the right call: meticulous food, interesting wine list, the sort of place that respects both craft and restraint. Spend the afternoon at the Indianapolis Museum of Art, which is legitimately excellent and free. Walk around the Canal, catch whatever's happening at the Vogue or Murat depending on the venue, then hit Mass Ave afterward for drinks at a place like Chatterbox or The Rathskeller. It's a short trip that doesn't feel rushed.
