About Spiritbox
Spiritbox is the project of Courtney LaPlante, a Canadian metalcore vocalist who emerged in the mid-2010s with a distinctive approach to heavy music. After years of backing vocals and collaborations, LaPlante launched Spiritbox as a full creative statement, releasing the album Eternal Blue in 2021. The album showcased her range—capable of everything from intricate vocal layering and melodic passages to absolutely punishing screams, often within the same song. Tracks like "Holy Shit" and "Circle With Me" became streaming staples, introducing progressive metalcore to listeners who might not typically seek out heavy music. What sets Spiritbox apart is the structural ambition behind the songs; they're not just heavy for heaviness's sake, but built with genuine compositional ideas. LaPlante's technical ability and willingness to write songs that shift between brutality and vulnerability made Spiritbox feel relevant in a way that revitalized interest in metalcore as a whole. The follow-up work has continued this trajectory of experimentation within the heavy music space.
Spiritbox crowds are unusually attentive for metalcore shows—people actually listen between the breakdowns. LaPlante commands the stage with focus rather than theatrics. Pits form but don't dominate; heads stay up to catch the intricate vocal arrangements. The energy feels concentrated, purposeful.

Spiritbox + Orlando
Spiritbox brought their particular brand of metal-adjacent heaviness to Hard Rock Live in April, working through a setlist that proved they're not just about the obvious cuts. They opened with "Fata Morgana" and spent the next hour touching everything from the propulsive "Tsunami Sea" to the weirder territory of "Rotoscope," a song that shows their willingness to go left when you expect right. "Soft Spine" landed somewhere between vulnerable and unsettling, which is kind of their whole thing. They closed on "Ride the Wave," which felt like the only reasonable way to end a set that never settled into one gear. Orlando's Hard Rock Live is exactly the kind of mid-sized room that suits Spiritbox—intimate enough to feel the production's weight, big enough to let it breathe.

Live Music in Orlando
Orlando's metal and alternative scene has quietly developed some muscle over the last decade. The city's venues—Hard Rock Live foremost among them—have become reliable stops for bands doing something heavier and weirder than mainstream rock. Spiritbox fits the landscape: they're heavy without being traditional metal, experimental without losing the thread, and theatrical without resorting to gimmicks. Orlando crowds tend to appreciate that kind of thing—they show up for artists interested in pushing rather than pandering.
Orlando road trip to see Spiritbox?
Stay in downtown Orlando's Church Street district or head to Winter Park, where brick-lined avenues and oak trees give the area actual character. Eat at The Courtesy, which does elevated Southern cooking without the pretense. Spend an afternoon at the Mennello Museum of American Art—small, genuinely interesting, and nothing like the theme-park scene. Take a drive through the Rollins College campus in Winter Park if you want to remember Florida had a slower side. Come back downtown for music, grab a drink at a proper bar instead of a nightclub, and let the evening unfold naturally.
