Overkill is a thrash metal band from New Jersey that's been consistently loud since 1980. Albums like Ironbound and Feel the Fire showcase a band that never got precious about their formula, just kept refining the brutality. They've released enough records to fill a decent-sized discography, and most of them don't embarrass them. Overkill exists in that sweet spot where they're respected enough by metal heads to keep touring constantly, but unknown enough to a general audience that their shows feel like they're for people who actually care about thrash metal. Their most recent appearance came in November 2024 at The Theater at Virgin Hotels, where they ran through a lean six-song set that felt exactly right for the setting. They opened with "Scorched," a track that announces itself with clear intent, then moved through "Rotten to the Core" and "Hello From the Gutter"—songs that have weathered decades without losing their edge. "The Surgeon" and "Elimination" kept the momentum sharp before closing out with "Fuck You," a fitting final statement from a band that's never been interested in softening anything for anybody.
