About Missio
Missio is the project of Matthew Brock, an alternative rock artist who builds songs around driving synths and introspective lyrics. Based between Las Vegas and Los Angeles, Brock started Missio as a solo venture and developed a sound that straddles indie rock and electronic music. His breakthrough came with tracks like Loverboy, which showcased his ability to craft catchy hooks alongside darker, more cerebral songwriting. Songs like Blackout and Drums Inside display his range—capable of both radio-friendly moments and deeper cuts that reward close listening. Missio's music often explores themes of alienation and inner conflict, wrapped in polished production that's accessible without being watered down.
Missio shows are tight and focused. Brock commands the stage with a deliberate intensity, not much banter. The crowd tends toward engaged listeners rather than casual onlookers. His synths hit hard live, and the energy builds methodically through the set rather than exploding all at once.

Missio + Austin
Missio pulled into Antone's on March 23, 2025, and ran through eighteen songs that traced the weird, wired path they've carved out. The setlist moved between their darker impulses and moments of actual levity—"Wolves" and "Fuck It" established the mood early, then they pivoted to "Vagabond" and the stripped-down "Can You Feel the Sun," which shifted something in the room. "Aztec Death Whistle" sits somewhere between industrial and occult, and they leaned into that strangeness. They closed with "Middle Fingers," which feels right for a band that's never tried to smooth themselves down. Austin's seen them work the room before, but this particular set felt like they were testing what they could get away with.

Live Music in Austin
Austin's music scene runs deep on indie rock, psych, and country, but there's always been space for the weirder electronic acts—the ones who build from synth and rhythm instead of guitar. Missio fits into that lineage of Austin artists who'd rather experiment than repeat. The city's venue infrastructure, from intimate clubs like Antone's to larger rooms, supports bands that don't need radio to thrive. It's a place where strange sounds find an audience.

Stay in East Austin, where you'll find better restaurants and a neighborhood that actually feels alive. Dinner at Suerte—confident, creative food in a space that doesn't try too hard. During the day, wander the galleries and vintage shops along East 6th, or head to Zilker Park to sit with a coffee and watch Austin be itself. If you've got time, catch live music at Mohawk or Hotel Vegas—smaller rooms where you can see how Austin's songwriting community actually operates. The city's best asset isn't any single thing; it's the density of good people doing interesting work.
