About Local H
Local H is Scott Lucas and whatever bassist he's got this week, which has been the whole joke and point of the band since 1996. They emerged from the post-grunge wasteland with "Bound for the Floor," a song so catchy it almost distracted from how genuinely strange it was—a two-piece playing stadium rock with maximum aggression and minimal bodies on stage. Lucas writes with a real sense of humor about loneliness, relationships, and the general absurdity of being in a rock band, which keeps their songs from ever getting too precious. They've released albums steadily over three decades without ever becoming precious or trying too hard, which is maybe the most rock and roll thing you can do. The novelty of a two-piece wore off fast because the songs are actually good.
Lucas plays guitar and sings while moving constantly, like he's personally responsible for everyone's fun. The sound is somehow bigger than two people should produce. Crowds get loud during "Bound for the Floor" but also pay attention to the deeper cuts. No phones out, mostly. People actually watch.

Local H + Atlanta
Local H rolled through Hell @ The Masquerade in November 2022 with the kind of setlist that rewarded the people who actually know their catalog. They opened with "Turn the Bow" and spent the next couple hours pulling from everywhere—deep cuts like "Fritz's Corner" and "5th Ave. Crazy" sat alongside the obvious ones like "Bound for the Floor." The band looked comfortable in that sweaty Atlanta basement, cranking through 28 songs that ranged from the weird instrumental interlude they did with "Fame" to the closing one-two punch of "Static Age" and "High-Fiving MF." It was the kind of show where Local H reminded people they're more than just a one-hit wonder, even if that one hit still hits.

Live Music in Atlanta
Atlanta's always been a rock city underneath all the hip-hop and trap beats. The DIY venues—the kind of place like Hell @ The Masquerade where Local H played—have been keeping guitar music alive in a city that could easily ignore it. Local H's brand of stripped-down, two-piece rock finds an audience here, especially among people who remember the '90s and still think a good hook and a loud guitar is enough to make a song work.
Atlanta road trip to see Local H?
Stay in Buckhead or Virginia Highland for the neighborhood feel — tree-lined streets, good restaurants, walkable enough to actually enjoy yourself. For dinner, Sotto Sotto does excellent Italian in a no-fuss basement setting, or Rathbun's for steak if you want something more formal. Spend an afternoon at the High Museum of Art, then grab drinks at The Eagle, which has the kind of dark-wood-and-whiskey vibe that actually works. Catch a Braves game at Truist Park if timing lines up. The food scene here is legitimately good without being try-hard about it.
