About Hellogoodbye
Hellogoodbye formed in 2001 in Huntington Beach, California, with Forrest Kline as the primary creative force. They're best known for their 2006 debut album 'Zombies! Aliens! Vampires! Dinosaurs!' which spawned the indie pop-punk hit 'Here In Your Arms,' a song that somehow became ubiquitous on MySpace and early YouTube despite its jangling, almost twee sensibilities. The track's infectious energy and Kline's breathy vocals defined a particular strain of mid-2000s pop-punk that was equal parts earnest and ironic. Beyond that one big moment, Hellogoodbye continued churning out albums with diminishing mainstream attention, but maintained a devoted cult following who appreciated Kline's songwriting approach—simultaneously clever and heartfelt, nerdy and romantic. They've become something of a comfort band for millennials who grew up with their music on scene playlists and Warped Tour lineups.
Their shows tend toward the enthusiastic and self-aware, with crowds that actually know the words to deeper cuts. Kline performs with dry, understated stage presence, letting the music do the work. Expect singalongs and genuine affection from attendees, though the energy is more earnest than raucous.

Hellogoodbye + Philadelphia
Hellogoodbye rolled through The Theatre of Living Arts in March 2025, bringing their particular brand of synth-pop earnestness to a room that's seen plenty of indie acts come through. The band leaned into their catalog with the kind of precision you'd expect from a group that's been around since the mid-2000s, hitting the crowd with tracks that still hold up better than they should. There's something about Philadelphia audiences that gets bands like this to lock in—they're not easily impressed, which means when you nail it here, you actually nailed it. The setlist moved between their heavier material and the lighter stuff without much friction, and the encore felt earned rather than obligatory.

Live Music in Philadelphia
Philadelphia's indie and alternative rock scene has always had room for bands that don't quite fit anywhere else. The city's never been precious about genre boundaries, which works in favor of acts like Hellogoodbye—musicians making pop music that's too earnest for irony, too weird for mainstream radio, too committed to hooks to dismiss as novelty. Venues like The Theatre of Living Arts have built their reputation on exactly this kind of artist: competent, slightly left of center, worth your actual time.
