Hellogoodbye formed in 2001 in Huntington Beach, California, with Forrest Kline as the primary creative force. They're best known for their 2006 debut album 'Zombies! Aliens! Vampires! Dinosaurs!' which spawned the indie pop-punk hit 'Here In Your Arms,' a song that somehow became ubiquitous on MySpace and early YouTube despite its jangling, almost twee sensibilities. The track's infectious energy and Kline's breathy vocals defined a particular strain of mid-2000s pop-punk that was equal parts earnest and ironic. Beyond that one big moment, Hellogoodbye continued churning out albums with diminishing mainstream attention, but maintained a devoted cult following who appreciated Kline's songwriting approach—simultaneously clever and heartfelt, nerdy and romantic. They've become something of a comfort band for millennials who grew up with their music on scene playlists and Warped Tour lineups.

Their shows tend toward the enthusiastic and self-aware, with crowds that actually know the words to deeper cuts. Kline performs with dry, understated stage presence, letting the music do the work. Expect singalongs and genuine affection from attendees, though the energy is more earnest than raucous.

Hellogoodbye rolled through KEMBA Live in November 2025 and kept things lean—nine songs that felt like a greatest-hits-adjacent run through their catalog. They opened with "Finding Something to Do" and moved through the expected crowd pleasers like "Here (In Your Arms)," but the real meat was in the deeper cuts: "The Magic Hour Is Now" and "(Everything Is) Debatable" showed they're not just coasting on nostalgia. "Honeymoon (Forever)" closed things out, a fitting choice for a band that's always traded in earnest, slightly nerdy indie-pop. It wasn't a long set, but it landed.

Columbus has a solid indie and alternative rock foundation that's kept bands like Hellogoodbye relevant. The city's always had a thing for scrappy, hook-laden acts that don't take themselves too seriously—the kind of venue like KEMBA Live thrives on that sensibility. It's not a glamorous music city, but it's the kind of place where a band built on earnest melodies and big pop hooks still finds an audience that actually cares.

Stay in German Village, where the restored brick townhouses and tree-lined streets feel like an actual neighborhood rather than a tourist zone. Dinner at Harvest Bistro on High Street for refined American food done without fuss. Spend the afternoon at the Columbus Museum of Art, then walk through the Short North corridor—the gallery district has real energy without feeling manufactured. Catch the show at Nationwide Arena, then grab drinks at Drinkery in German Village for something low-key.
