Hellogoodbye formed in 2001 in Huntington Beach, California, with Forrest Kline as the primary creative force. They're best known for their 2006 debut album 'Zombies! Aliens! Vampires! Dinosaurs!' which spawned the indie pop-punk hit 'Here In Your Arms,' a song that somehow became ubiquitous on MySpace and early YouTube despite its jangling, almost twee sensibilities. The track's infectious energy and Kline's breathy vocals defined a particular strain of mid-2000s pop-punk that was equal parts earnest and ironic. Beyond that one big moment, Hellogoodbye continued churning out albums with diminishing mainstream attention, but maintained a devoted cult following who appreciated Kline's songwriting approach—simultaneously clever and heartfelt, nerdy and romantic. They've become something of a comfort band for millennials who grew up with their music on scene playlists and Warped Tour lineups.

Their shows tend toward the enthusiastic and self-aware, with crowds that actually know the words to deeper cuts. Kline performs with dry, understated stage presence, letting the music do the work. Expect singalongs and genuine affection from attendees, though the energy is more earnest than raucous.

Hellogoodbye rolled through Cleveland's Agora in November 2025, and the math pop outfit delivered exactly what you'd want from them at this point in their career. They led with "Finding Something to Do" and "The Magic Hour Is Now," setting a tone that was less about proving anything and more about showing up for people who'd stuck around. "When We First Met" hit different in a room full of people who actually remember when that song mattered. The real moment came midway through when they pulled out "Let It Drop"—a track that feels heavier now than it did on the records—before pivoting to "Here (In Your Arms)," which predictably landed as the show's anchor. They closed with "Honeymoon (Forever)," which felt right for a band that's learned to sit comfortably in their own catalog.

Cleveland's indie and alternative rock tradition runs deep, and math pop has always found a home here alongside the city's broader DIY ethos. Venues like the Agora have hosted enough guitar-driven pop bands that audiences understand the appeal of intricate arrangements and hooks that don't announce themselves on first listen. It's a scene that respects craft over spectacle, which matches Hellogoodbye's sensibility perfectly—they're not trying to be bigger than the room.

Stay in Ohio City, where Victorian brownstones meet serious coffee shops and galleries. Dinner at Fairmount, where chef Jonathon Sawyer sources locally and cooks with real technique—expect seasonal American food that doesn't announce itself. Spend an afternoon at the Cleveland Museum of Art, which is free and genuinely excellent. Walk through the West Side Market before the show, grab something you don't need, and feel the bones of the city. The whole neighborhood has that working-class dignity that makes Cleveland distinct.
