About Dru Hill
Dru Hill emerged from Baltimore in the mid-90s as one of the defining voices of New Jack Swing R&B. The group—Mark "Sisqó" Andrews, Tamir "Nokio" Ruffin, Larry "Jazz" Anthony, and James "Woody" Green—built their reputation on smooth harmonies and emotionally direct ballads. "In My Bed" became their signature track, a song that basically defined late-night 90s radio. They followed it with "We're Not Making Love No More," which proved they weren't one-hit wonders. Their self-titled 1996 debut sold millions and made them regulars on MTV and BET. Sisqó eventually broke out as a solo artist with "Thong Song," but Dru Hill remained relevant through lineup changes and sporadic reunions. They represented a specific moment when R&B groups could still dominate pop radio without compromising their sound.
Dru Hill shows feature a lot of singing along to those major hits—the crowd knows every word to the ballads. Energy is more controlled than chaotic, with people genuinely lost in the nostalgia. Tight harmonies translate well live. Sisqó appearances boost the vibe considerably.

Dru Hill + Jacksonville
Dru Hill has a quiet but solid history with Jacksonville. The group last touched down in September 2021 at Hooligans Pub & Music Hall, where they ran through their catalog of '90s R&B hits. The setlist hit the expected marks — "In My Bed," "Never Make a Promise" — the songs that made them relevant when they broke through in the mid-'90s. There's something about how these groups play smaller venues now, stripped of the arena production but still commanding the room. Jacksonville crowds tend to know their lyrics better than most, and Dru Hill's performance reflected that kind of mutual understanding between a veteran act and an audience that grew up with their records.

Live Music in Jacksonville
Jacksonville's R&B scene exists in the shadow of Miami and Atlanta, which means it's developed a kind of scrappy independence. The city's stronger on rock and metal historically, but there's always been a pocket of serious soul and R&B heads here. When acts like Dru Hill come through, they're playing to people who actually want to hear the music, not just the hits. Venues like Hooligans cater to that crowd — intimate enough to feel like you're getting something real, not a nostalgia lap.
Jacksonville road trip to see Dru Hill?
Stay in the Riverside neighborhood—tree-lined streets, actual character, and close enough to venues without feeling disconnected from the city. Orsay has the kind of kitchen that justifies driving across town: French-inflected food that doesn't announce itself. Spend an afternoon at the Cummer Museum if you want something quiet before the show, or walk the San Marco area and remind yourself what civic architecture used to look like. The venue itself will be worth your attention—Jacksonville books serious acts, and they still know how to put on a show that doesn't get drowned out by the room.
