About David Lee Roth
David Lee Roth is the former and periodic frontman of Van Halen, a band that basically invented stadium rock excess in the 1980s. He joined Van Halen in 1977 and helmed their rise through the decade, trading vocal duties with the band's guitar virtuoso Eddie Van Halen on tracks like "Jump" and "Panama." He split from the band in 1985 to pursue a solo career that produced hits like "Just a Gigolo" and "Yankee Rose," proving he could carry a tune beyond Eddie's shadow. Throughout the 90s and 2000s, he rejoined Van Halen for reunion tours and recordings, then left again. His voice has aged noticeably over the years—not always gracefully—but his swagger and stage presence remain oddly intact. He's also done other things like acting, painting, and, inexplicably, circus training, but people mostly care about whether he can still nail those high notes live.
Roth shows up expecting to own the stage and most crowds let him. He struts, high-kicks, makes eye contact. Energy depends heavily on how his voice is holding up that night. Fans sing every word. Expect some covers mixed in. He'll talk between songs like he's the only person who matters.

David Lee Roth + Buffalo
David Lee Roth hit KeyBank Center in Buffalo on February 5, 2020, just weeks before everything shut down. The 11-song set leaned on Van Halen classics: Beautiful Girls, Unchained, and Tobacco Road all made the cut. He worked through Jamie's Cryin' and Just Like Paradise before closing with Just a Gigolo / I Ain't Got Nobody and Jump. The pacing was tight, and the deep pull of Tobacco Road gave the set some texture beyond the obvious hits.

Live Music in Buffalo
Buffalo's always had a soft spot for arena rock and the kind of loud, unpretentious guitar music that doesn't apologize. The city's seen everything from Niagara Falls' own Rick James to generations of hard rock devotees who grew up on exactly the kind of anthems Van Halen built their reputation on. It's the kind of place where 'Panama' still hits different.
Buffalo road trip to see David Lee Roth?
Stay in Allentown, where the neighborhood's Victorian architecture and walkable blocks of galleries, vintage shops, and bars feel genuinely lived-in. Dinner at Sear should be priority—chef Jeremy Boyle's locally-sourced approach is legitimately ambitious without the pretense. Catch the contemporary art at Albright-Knox (their recent renovations are worth your time), then spend an evening at one of the neighborhood's dive bars like The Owl that still feels like actual people hang there, not tourists.
