Dashboard Confessional
Hartford HealthCare Amphitheater — Bridgeport, CT

Dashboard Confessional is basically what happened when emo stopped being ironic and started being genuinely sad about relationships. Chris Carrabba spent the early 2000s making introspective acoustic rock that somehow worked on both MTV and in the ears of people who actually cared about lyrics, turning songs like "Screaming Infidelities" and "Hands Down" into the soundtrack for whatever drama was happening in your life at 16. They proved you didn't need distortion or screaming to break hearts, just a guy, a guitar, and lyrics specific enough that you were pretty sure he wrote them about you.

Chris Carrabba plays basically the entire catalog at a pace that feels slower than the records, which turns the whole thing into something closer to a sing-along therapy session where some people are genuinely crying and the guy next to you is probably mouthing every word.

Known for Hands Down, Vindicated, Screaming Infidelities, Stolen, As Lovers Go

Dashboard Confessional last stopped through Hartford back in 2010 at Webster Theater, running through 18 songs that night including "The Brilliant Dance." It's been over a decade since then. The band's particular brand of emo confessional has aged reasonably well, and Hartford's due for a reminder of what that era sounded like live.

Hartford's music scene has long embraced introspective indie and alternative rock, with venues like the Bushnell and smaller clubs supporting artists in the emo and post-rock vein. The city's demographics skew toward listeners who grew up with Dashboard Confessional's brand of vulnerable songwriting, making it solid ground for artists mining emotional authenticity over flash.

Stay in the West End neighborhood—it's got actual character and puts you near some decent restaurants. Head to Saluto for Italian that doesn't oversell itself, or The Sycamore for New American food done properly. Before the show, walk through Bushnell Park and check out the Elizabeth Park conservatory if the weather cooperates. After, grab a drink at Vaughan's Public House if you want to decompress somewhere that feels lived-in rather than designed. The Wadsworth Atheneum is worth an hour if you have time to kill during the day.
