About Aly & AJ
Aly & AJ are sisters who started as teen pop acts in the mid-2000s before basically vanishing and coming back on their own terms. They had the Disney Channel run and the pop radio moment with "Potential Breakup Song," which is legitimately catchy and still holds up. Then they kind of stepped away, pursued other stuff, got older, and eventually came back with music that felt more like them — less polished, more guitar-driven indie pop. Their 2017 album "Ten Years" was a real statement that they weren't trying to recapture their youth but actually move forward in it. They've built this weirdly devoted fanbase of people who grew up with them and stuck around, plus people who discovered them later and appreciated that they didn't keep chasing whatever made them famous originally. Their music is melodic without being saccharine, and there's real craft in the songwriting.
Their crowds are loyal but not huge. Shows feel intimate even in larger venues because the people there actually know the words to everything. There's genuine affection in the room rather than nostalgia hunting. They play tight, sound good, and seem comfortable on stage in a way that suggests they're doing this because they want to.

Aly & AJ + Cincinnati
Aly & AJ brought their full catalog to Bogart's in April 2022, running through a 20-song set that felt like a greatest hits and deep cuts hybrid. They opened with "Pretty Places" and kept momentum steady through fan favorites like "Chemicals React" and "Insomniatic," but the real surprises came with deeper pulls—"Blue Dress" and "Stomach" showed they're not just here to play the obvious ones. "Potential Breakup Song" closed things out, which felt right. It was the kind of show where they reminded Cincinnati they've got range beyond what gets stuck in your head.

Live Music in Cincinnati
Cincinnati's indie and alternative rock scene has always had room for artists who exist outside the mainstream narrative. The city's venues like Bogart's have hosted everyone from grunge holdouts to synth-pop revivalists, creating an audience that appreciates genre-hopping and artistic evolution. Aly & AJ fit neatly into that lineage—pop musicians willing to get strange, experiment with production, and shift direction without apology. It's the kind of city that gets them.
Cincinnati road trip to see Aly & AJ?
Stay in Hyde Park, Cincinnati's most elegant neighborhood, with tree-lined streets and restored Victorian homes. Dinner at The Eagle—a fine dining spot that takes Southern cooking seriously—pairs well with Stapleton's sensibility. Spend your afternoon at the Cincinnati Art Museum or walking the grounds at Spring Grove Cemetery, one of America's most beautiful cemeteries. Both offer quiet reflection before heading to the show. If you have time, catch the view from Skyline Chili's main location; the city panorama is worth the detour, even if the food is divisive.
