Air Supply is an Australian soft rock duo that basically defined the sound of 80s power ballads. Graham Russell and Russell Hitchcock met in Sydney and built a catalog of melodic, emotionally direct rock songs that dominated both rock and pop radio. All Out of Love became their signature moment—the kind of song that plays at proms and gets stuck in your head for days. Beyond the ballads, they had surprisingly solid uptempo tracks like Every Woman in the World that showed they could do more than just slow burns. Their thing was earnest sentiment delivered with polished production and tight harmonies. They were everywhere in the 80s, less cool than some of their peers maybe, but undeniably effective at what they did. They've kept touring steadily and their songs have aged better than people generally admit.

Their crowds are older, nostalgic, full of people who actually bought these albums in 1980. When All Out of Love starts, the whole room sings along. Russell's voice still holds up. It's polished, well-rehearsed, the kind of show where nothing goes wrong because they've played it a hundred times. Sincere without irony.

Known for All Out of Love, Every Woman in the World, Lost in Love, The One That You Love, Here I Am (Just When I Thought I Was Over You)

Air Supply last touched down in Rochester back in July 1998 at Meadow Brook Music Festival, running through a setlist that mixed the obvious with the deeper cuts. They opened with "The Vanishing Race" before pivoting to "Lost in Love," then spent the evening working through their catalog—"Here I Am," "Even the Nights Are Better," the surprisingly tender "Mother Said." They closed it out with "All Out of Love," which felt like the only reasonable way to end a night like that. It's been a minute.

Rochester has always had a soft spot for arena rock and polished pop acts. The city's concert venues have historically attracted touring soft rock and adult contemporary performers—the kind of acts that built their audience through MTV and FM radio in the '70s and '80s. Air Supply fit neatly into that tradition, drawing the demographic that came of age with power ballads and orchestral arrangements. Meadow Brook's summer festival circuit gave bands like Air Supply a natural home.

Stay in the Park Avenue neighborhood, where the tree-lined streets and historic homes create a genteel atmosphere without feeling stuffy. Dinner at Citrine, where the wine program is thoughtful and the kitchen respects its ingredients, sets the right tone. Before or after the show, spend an afternoon at the George Eastman Museum—the photography collection is world-class, and the house itself is a masterclass in early-20th-century design. It's the kind of place that makes you think differently about composition and light, which isn't a bad headspace before hearing Bilmuri's intricate arrangements.
